At Mental Health Hygiene and Wellness Clinic, we are committed to raising awareness about alcohol use disorder (AUD), breaking the stigma, and providing compassionate care to those struggling with alcohol misuse. Alcohol Awareness Month serves as a reminder that education, support, and treatment can make a difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by alcohol-related challenges.

Understanding Alcohol Use Disorder
Alcohol use disorder is a medical condition that affects a person’s ability to control their drinking, despite negative consequences. It can range from mild to severe and includes behaviors such as binge drinking and alcohol dependence.
According to the Mayo Clinic, symptoms of AUD include:
✔ Strong cravings for alcohol
✔ Inability to limit alcohol consumption
✔ Withdrawal symptoms when not drinking
✔ Neglecting responsibilities due to drinking
✔ Continued use despite health, work, or relationship issues
Binge drinking—defined as five or more drinks in two hours for men and four or more for women—poses serious health risks, including liver disease, high blood pressure, depression, and increased risk of accidents.
How Common Is Alcohol Misuse?
Alcohol misuse is more widespread than many realize. Studies show that 1 in 10 adults struggles with AUD, and excessive alcohol use contributes to over 200 health conditions, including mental health disorders, liver disease, and heart problems.
Breaking the Stigma
Many people hesitate to seek help because of fear, shame, or misinformation. At Mental Health Hygiene and Wellness Clinic, we want to create a safe and judgment-free space for individuals to discuss their struggles and seek support. Recovery is possible, and no one should have to face it alone.
