March Marks the Start of Self-Injury Awareness Month

Every March, we recognize Self-Injury Awareness Month—a time to break the stigma, foster understanding, and provide support for those struggling with self-harm. Far too many people suffer in silence, fearing judgment or misunderstanding. This month is an opportunity to educate, show compassion, and encourage open conversations about mental health and recovery.
How Common Is It?
Self-injury is more widespread than many realize. Studies show that about 17% of people will engage in self-harm at some point in their lives, with adolescents and young adults being the most affected. However, self-injury can impact anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background.
Why Awareness Matters
Self-harm is not a cry for attention—it’s often a way for individuals to cope with overwhelming emotions or mental health struggles. Unfortunately, stigma prevents many from seeking help, leaving them feeling isolated and misunderstood. By raising awareness, we can replace judgment with support, shame with understanding, and fear with hope.
What Can You Do?
✅ Educate Yourself – Learn the facts about self-injury and challenge misconceptions.
✅ Show Support – Be a safe space for those who may be struggling. A simple conversation can make a difference.
✅ Encourage Help-Seeking – Let others know that professional support is available and that healing is possible.
Self-Injury Awareness Month is a time to stand together, break the silence, and let those struggling know they are not alone. Recovery is possible, and no one has to go through it alone.
